Packing List - 8 Day Missions Trip

Packing List

o PASSPORTS! - Copies of passports kept separate from your passport. Leave a copy at home with a close family member and you MUST give me a copy of both your Passport and License.

o Comfortable walking/working shoes

o Socks

o Sandals (comfortable shoes to lounge around/shower)

o Clothing: *see dressing for Haiti list below

o Bathing Suit: (modest for men and women, a one piece/tankini for women)

o Sleepwear *see dressing for Haiti list below

o Bag for dirty clothes (i.e. trash bag/laundry bag)

o Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Hat/bandana (the sun is very direct and very strong)

o BUG Spray-- Use unscented items (i.e. lotion) to avoid attracting bugs. Tea Tree Oil also keeps them at bay.

o Purse/backpack/daypack/fanny pack (to carry your stuff on day trips)

o Toiletries (toothbrush and toothpaste, lotion, shampoo, soap, lip balm,
contact solution, razor, feminine products, etc.)
ONLY Makeup allowed is waterproof mascara!! Trust me. You will sweat it all off and it's so great to let your skin breathe in the humidity. Also, you don't need makeup. Period.

o Tissue packs if you use them

o Washcloths for your personal use + Sweat towel

o Bible, pen, journal, reading books

o Hand sanitizer or anti-bacterial wipes (enough for your stay).

o Water bottles- 1 (Nalgene type works great) or a camelback.

o Powdered drink mixes for your personal use. (i.e. Crystal light, propel, gatorade, etc.)

o Snacks (you will NOT have open access to food anytime you want it so pack wisely. (i.e. trail mix, jerky, granola bars, peanut butter, crackers, dry fruit etc.)

o Flashlight/headlamp/extra batteries

o Camera/film/memory cards/batteries.

o   Chargers/converters/batteries needed for your devices. (Just camera)

o  Lindsay will have a cell phone/computer to keep everyone home updated (I will expand more on this at the meeting)

o Spending money-in US dollars. It is recommended to bring anywhere from $25- $150. We usually stop for sodas after working all day or we go to the market, etc. We also can use some of this money to buy food while traveling through the states to Haiti and back
Please do not purchase the following souvenirs: anything made with goatskin, voodoo drums, or a statue of an old man with a pipe leaning on a stick. (I will be with you the whole time in the market and make sure you don't purchase these things)

Dress Code

Ladies:
  • No Spandex! No tight clothing at all.
  • No low cut shirts, not even close to being low cut. Must be what one would consider, baggy!
  • Only thick strapped tank tops allowed. I usually wear tank top/shorts/and a thin button up. I’ll show examples at the meeting.
  • For church: Long skirts. Floor length. I recommend earth tones, mosquitos tend to like bright colors more.
  • You would think to wear less clothing because of the heat but I find that wearing longer sleeves and pants gives less room for mosquitos to bite you! For bed I would wear leggings that went all the way down to ankle and then socks over them so none of my leg/feet are exposed to the wrath of the mosquito! Just remember ladies that this isn’t a glam show… no one cares what you look like.
  • Again, only makeup allowed is Waterproof Mascara. Seriously…. Don’t even bring anything else. You’ll sweat it off anyway and make your skin super unhealthy and we really won’t have time for primping… nor should that be our focus at all.
  • Jewelry- No necklaces/dangly earrings (I’ll wear a necklace to church sometimes…but kids will tug on them) – the kids will pick/tug on stuff so bracelets are ok. Stud earrings are ok but I personally wouldn’t wear them. I always wear my ring and that’s fine cause it isn’t flashy or have any value. My tragus & nose ring are always in and that’s fine but just be cautious because the flashier the stuff, the more attention drawn or the easier to tug on the more risk you have of it being ripped out, etc. Just be smart…
  • Men: Earth tones recommended as well. One pair of kakhi/nicer pants for church & button down (short or long sleeve) – just something nice for church. Other than that, tshirts, cargo shorts/basketball shorts, running shoes/hiking shoes.
  • Shoes: I would wear toms for church just cause it looks better with skirts, but you can also wear sandals to church. Guys can wear whatever shoes they want to church.

Medicine/Vaccinations
  • Malaria Medication
  • (@ Costco – make sure you talk to your doctor/physician and make sure it is the medicine that does NOT give you night terrors)
  • Recommended:
  •             -Hepatitis A &B, Typhoid
  • Discuss with your doctor!

Port-au Prince, Haiti 2015

Hey Team! And anyone else interested in following us on this journey.

We are LESS than 2 months away from leaving for Haiti! Wow! This is gonna go quick, so make sure to bookmark or "follow" this blog so we can squeeze the usual training of 5-6 months into 2. We can do it though, I believe in you and also believe in the Lord's calling on this trip.

I will be posting lots of blogs here from packing lists, to inspiration, and also some of your stories throughout this journey. If you ever want to write up a quick post on anything related to Haiti, then please do! I love hearing how the Lord is moving and working in your lives and I love even more so, to share it with the public. To inspire and compel others to live a life unto Him and for Him.

That's the beauty of all we do. We have the ability to invite others into it. To journey with us.

Love you all!

In Him,
Lindsay
